KRK Systems Rokit Series Studio Reference Monitors
ROKIT Powered Monitors feature several of the key design elements found in KRK’s premium models, many of which have become the “studio standard” for the world’s finest engineers, producers and musicians. Now, you can have that same KRK sound, attention to detail and commitment at a price that makes Rokit Powered a truly uncommon value.

All KRK Rokit Powered Series monitors feature a proprietary signature yellow woofer made of a woven glass aramid composite that delivers a tight low-end response and a soft dome tweeter for natural sounding highs. The drivers are electronically crossed over and are bi-amped for increased efficiency. All of this is housed in an attractive cabinet with radiused corners that reduce edge diffraction resulting in better audio imaging. The rear input panel features phone plug and XLR connectors to accommodate any application.

Event Electronics Studio Precision  Series Studio  Monitors
The first time you listen to a pair of Studio Precision™ monitors, you'll almost surely shake your head in disbelief—then break out in a smile. We've seen it happen time and time again: People just can't believe that they're hearing a sound so big and so alive coming from direct field monitors. But your ears aren't deceiving you. Studio Precision monitors deliver a sound that's much wider, much deeper, much more defined, and packed with much more low-end punch than mere mortal direct field monitors. Simply put, they far exceed people's sonic expectations—and by a huge margin.

Tight, Punchy, In-Your-Chest Low End

First on the engineering agenda was enhancing the low frequency response. The attack was three-pronged: new low frequency drivers, new cabinets, and new bass ports.

Custom-designed in every aspect, the drivers deliver a whole new level of performance, in part through the use of neodymium magnets. Neodymium—a rare earth material at the forefront of loudspeaker technology—produces significantly higher magnetic energy than conventional ceramic magnets. This allows the creation of a "supercharged" driver motor that provides for lower distortion and a much greater level of output efficiency—that is, more output per watt—than woofers designed with traditional magnets.

The cabinets themselves were carefully designed to deliver deep low frequency response yet be small enough to fit comfortably into today's modern recording environments. Larger studios can use the 8" models to fill the room with enough heart-pounding sound to impress even those "I want you to rock me" clients, and smaller studios can do the same with the 6.5" versions—with no compromise in performance. All of the cabinets are constructed from 3/4" MDF (precision-milled to 0.005" tolerance), which insures that the sound emanating from the speakers is pure and clean—free from artificial tones created by unwanted cabinet resonance.

An obvious distinguishing feature of the Studio Precision front baffle is the dual port design. The ports may just look like a couple of holes, but they are much, much more. They are the reason that you can truly feel the tremendous low frequency response—not just hear it. The real story lies beyond the front-baffle holes, inside the cabinet itself. Ready for a little speaker design theory? Here we go: Bass ports are incorporated in monitors to provide extended low frequency response—they help move the significant amount of air required to accurately reproduce low frequency material. For optimum performance, a port tube should be straight, which means its length is limited by the depth of the cabinet. (Physics dictate that it would be very difficult to have a 9" port tube sit inside a cabinet that was only 8" deep.)

Mackie Onyx-1220 12 Channel Audio Mixer w/Optional Firewire I/0
TWO YEARS IN THE MAKING...
The goal for Mackie's flagship Onyx series of small-format mixers was to bring premium analog sound, expanded features, and streaming FireWire connectivity to both recording and live sound environments. To pull all this off, we started with a team of veteran audio product engineers from the great Pacific Northwest (aka Woodinville, Washington). The Onyx team quickly set out by specifying the highest-quality analog components--from premium op-amps to IC chips costing exponentially more than previous designs. In many cases, we developed components completely from scratch. With Greg Mackie himself steering Onyx mixer layout and design, we took a "real world" approach to the entire process.

ONYX MIC PREAMPS
Because a great mixer starts with great mic preamps, we invested significant R&D efforts into developing our new flagship Onyx mic preamps. These preamps build upon our already-impressive XDR design to meet or surpass expensive esoteric standalone mic pres in terms of fidelity, headroom and transparency—as well as improved radio frequency (RFI) rejection and wider dynamic range.

PERKINS EQ CIRCUITRY
When it was time for the Onyx EQ section, we turned to veteran audio engineer Cal Perkins to develop our new Perkins EQ circuitry—a "neo classic" 3- and 4-band design based on classic "British EQ" circuitry from mixing desks of the '60s and '70s. Cal devised a way to give Perkins EQ that sweet "British console" sound, but with greater filter control and minimum phase shift.

Onyx-1220 Features:

  • Premium 12-channel small-format analog mixer with all-new circuitry
  • 4 new ONYX mic preamps with sound comparable to boutique preamps
  • New 3-band Perkins EQ with sweepable mids on Mic/Line channels
  • 96kHz FireWire option card for streaming 14 independent channels of audio to computer with near-zero latency
  • 2 channels of monitoring from computer via FireWire option card
  • 2 Aux sends w/ Pre/Post switches
  • 4 stereo line-level inputs
  • Built-in Talkback section for use with internal or external mic
  • True hardware EQ Bypass
  • "Planet-Earth" switching power supply for worldwide use
  • Individual 48v Phantom Power switches on all mic inputs
  • 60mm Logarithmic Taper faders for smooth, linear fades
  • Balanced direct outs for every channel via DB-25 connections
  • Selectable Instrument inputs on first two channels-no DI box needed

FIREWIRE I/O OPTION CARD
In the category of "Why didn't someone think of this sooner?", we gave the Onyx 1220 an optional FireWire I/O card, which bridges the analog-to-digital gap by providing up to 14 independent channels of high-quality 24-bit/96kHz audio that you can plug right into your FireWire-equipped Mac or PC. And bring a stereo mix back from your computer for monitoring purposes.

Onyx Firewire Features:

  • User-installable 24-bit/96kHz FireWire I/O Card for Mackie Onyx Series analog mixers
  • Stream 12 or 16 independent channels of audio, plus stereo mix, directly to Mac or PC (12 ch. + mix on 1220; 16 ch. + mix on 1620 and 1640)
  • Monitor stereo L/R mix from computer back through mixer with a single button press
  • FireWire technology provides monitoring through audio software and plug-ins with no noticeable latency
  • Works with any Windows XP ASIO/WDM host (Cakewalk, Cubase, Sonar, Nuendo, Live, Tracktion, etc.) or any compatible Mac OS X Core Audio host (GarageBand, Logic, Cubase, Sonar, Nuendo, Live, Digital Performer, Tracktion, etc.)
  • Now includes the popular Tracktion 2 Audio and MIDI Production Software with Final Mix mastering tools and more
